Round-up of Android and Apple for the year 2011

2011 year is being a great year for everything related to technology. Both companies – Apple and Google [Android] were in the news throughout the year majorly due to their new releases.

There was certainly enough information about both of them in 2011. Their detailed major round-up is discussed below –

March, 2011

In the month of March, Apple launched iPad2 and also the rumors of iPad3 started. The iPad2 represented a major step forward with a total new design and many new features.

It features 1GHz A5 dual-core processor, front and rear both facing cameras, video support up to 1080p via HDMI, 9.7 inch screen with 1024×768 resolution, battery life of 10 hours, and separate GSM and CDMA 3G connectivity options.

October, 2011

With the release of iOS 5 on October 12, iPhone 4S goes on sale.

On 4^th October, Apple hosted an event for official announcement of iPhone 4S and right after one day – 5^th October Apple announced that the owner of the Company – Steve Jobs has passed away. The new iPhone 4S is launched with a new voice activated assistant called “Siri”, a much improved camera and a new dual-core processor.

Within 24 hours of its launch, Apple proudly announced that it has sold over 1 million units. And within five days of launch of iOS 5, almost 25 million users installed it.

November, 2011

Right after the release of iPhone 4S, Samsung and Google together launched – Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

The new Operating system Android 4.0 brings together the software of tablets and smartphones. It will run on both – mobile devices as well as tablets. The main highlights of the device are – Verizon 4G LTE support, 5MP rear camera, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1.3MP front facing camera, and 4.65 inches 1280×720 super AMOLED display.

These were the major releases by Apple and Android in the year 2011. Some of the other updates of Apple include –

-          Apple released iPhone 4 in White in the April month, 2011

-          In July, 2011 Apple released OS X Lion and also updated the Mac Mini and MacBook Air

-          iTunes Match release in November, 2011 by Apple
